About Fox Dance Academy

Hi, I’m Caroline Foxley, the owner and principal at Fox Dance Academy. I have been dancing for 36 years, and teaching for 22 of them!

My love of dance took me all over Europe where I was lucky enough to Choreograph perform and teach in countries such as France, Greece and Luxembourg.  I settled in England in 2008 in the hope that I can bring my experiences and as much joy to students as I myself have had through the world of dance.

We have been established now for 12 years and are lucky enough to have two dance Schools, one in Wistaston and one in Malpas.  This year has seen our exciting re-location from Wistaston to Nantwich and the renovation of our very own studio.

Fox Dance Academy has a fabulous team of teachers that have moved through our school as students and are now passing their knowledge and expertise on as teachers. All of our teachers are fully qualified, DBS checked, insured and full of the same passion for dance that I have!  We also have some lovely assistants who are our senior students wishing to gain experience or volunteering for their Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Fox Dance Academy follow the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance). It is a highly recognised syllabus taught in many of the top dance schools around the world. We encourage pupils to take exams in their chosen dance genres, however exams are not forced upon children and those not wanting to take exams will continue to move through the school with their class.  Every 2nd year  we prepare and perform our bi Annual show at  the beautiful Lyceum Theatre in Crewe which is a huge event and great fun for pupils and parents alike.

We also offer various workshops throughout the year, and continue to add different dance genres to our timetable wherever possible. Our new studio will enable us to build our dance family and add various events throughout the year to enable students to socialise with their dance friends, these will include showcases,  parties, and dvd evenings.

Miss Gemma

Miss Gemma has been dancing since the age of 3 and fell in love with it straight away. She proceeded to work her way through all her ISTD and RAD exams in ballet tap and modern as well as taking part in her dance schools yearly show, dancing at Disneyland Paris and taking part in regular dance competitions as both a solo and a group competitor.

Miss Gemma had competition solos in ballet, tap, modern, lyrical, national and song and dance from the age of 9 to the age of 18 having placed or won her solos at multiple competitions. Miss Gemma knew she wanted to be a dance teacher from a very young age and refused to weigh up any other options for her future. At the age of 13 she began helping with classes as the Saturday girl at her dance school which was later sold to Miss Carolines School of Dance who opted to keep her on.

Since then she began gaining knowledge on how classes run, how to teach certain steps to children and to choreograph her own dances. After completing her dance GCSE and A levels she began her 3 year journey at North Liverpool Dance Academy to complete her teacher training in all genres. Miss Gemma holds teaching qualifications in ISTD and IDTA ballet, ISTD modern, ISTD tap, ISTD national, Health and safety and lifespan. She has also completed the dance curriculum in full in tap, modern and national. After completing college Miss Gemma went on to qualify as a level 1 acrobatic arts teacher and has since incorporated Acro into the timetable.

Miss Issy

Dancing has always been a passion of mine since I was 2. Having taken classes with Miss Caroline I developed a love for anything that involved music.

I studied a BTEC in dance and performing arts at college; dancing and singing in various showcases yearly. I then moved onto university where I carried on my studies in performing arts. Throughout my studies I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to assist with classes at Fox Dance Academy. And from that day on I knew I wanted to be a dance teacher. I love seeing the students grow, progress and form friendships within the classes.

And most of all I love teaching them something I’m passionate about. And see their love for the art grow. I am now currently in the middle of my dance teacher training at North Liverpool dance academy. I have completed my tap teaching exams and I’m working towards my modern and ballet. I’m also interested in singing and musical theatre, having danced and sang in the excel theatre in London for Move It.

Fiona has been a dance teacher for over 15 years in both the UK and China. Her passion for creative arts and dance began at high school and soon became the focus of her studies as she graduated from Demontfort University in 2007.

Fiona was lucky enough to be supported by Dance4 and Cheshire dance in early positions that cultivated an energy for dance development and teaching that has stayed with Fiona throughout her career.

In 2009, Fiona Travelled to Shanghai, China, with a backpack on her back and a desire to learn and grow. It was here that Fiona settled, learnt mandarin, set up a dance company and completed a masters. Alongside this, Fiona  had a full-time position at an international School teaching dance at middle and high school level where she directed and choreographed for several musicals, plays and dance shows showcasing young peoples talents.

Fiona has taught creative movement, ballet, hip hop and contemporary dance and in 2012 she qualified as a kids yoga instructor. Her yoga training and practice continues to influence her dance teaching and mindset today, as she strives to continuing learning and developing as a teacher and choreographer.

Our Classes

At Fox Dance Academy, we truly believe that you can express yourself in any
form of dance that you choose. That's why we offer a broad range of classes
including the following:

Ballet
A type of dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance and later developed into a concept dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology.

Tap
A dance performed wearing shoes fitted with metal taps, characterised by rhythmical tapping of the feet.

Modern
A free expressive style of dancing that developed as a reaction or rebellion to classical ballet. It is a vast genre with multiple styles including jazz and lyrical.

Pointe
Part of the classical ballet technique in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet with pointe shoes. Pointe work is a very demanding lesson and is only offered to the older end of the school as the feet must be fully developed to avoid injury.

Pre-school dance
This class helps develop good posture, balance and self awareness as well as building confidence, focus and social skills. Most importantly this class helps to teach the basic skills required for ballet tap and modern in a fun relaxed setting before moving into a more structured but still fun class as they begin school.

Street dance
A style that evolved outside of the traditional dance studio in any available open space such as the streets, parks and school yards. Street is an umbrella term for a number of social dance styles including (but not limited to) breaking, hip hop, locking, popping and house

Contemporary
A style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres such a modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. This style strives to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements.

Musical Theatre
A form of theatrical performance that combines singing, acting and dance based around West end and Broadway musicals.

Acrobatics
A unique blend of dancing and gymnastics covering the 5 divisions – flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering and tumbling. Classes are set off both physical ability as well as age in order to deliver a safe class for all.

Limbering
A class for all ages who want to physical improve and develop their bodies to their fullest potential. This class includes a warm up, stretching, body conditioning, flexibility and corner work. Attending this class will benefit you greatly in any other class you take.

Children's Yoga

Kids yoga is an incredible way for children and young people to practice their focus, determination, perseverance and mindfulness.

Yoga not only improves strength, flexibility and muscle endurance but through the practice of poses, breathing techniques and mini meditations, it has the ability to make the connection between mind and body. This consequently can help children recognise how they feel, accept different emotions and work through change and stress that occurs in our everyday life.

Kids yoga is taught in a fun, dynamic way that offers a combination of movement and stillness to create a balance of energy and relaxation for children and young people. Classes use music, themes, stories and patterns that help them to learn and follow structure as well as engage muscles and focus the mind.

There has never been a better time for children to invest in their mental health and learn ways in which they can improve physical and mental well-being. Come join us for out open class on Friday at 4pm ages 5-12 years will all find something engaging and challenging to take away with them and use in their lives.
